Biography of Dr. Stephen J. Press, DC, PhD, CCSP, FACSM, FICC, ICSSD

Dr. Stephen J. Press was the first DC accepted into a post-doctoral course in bone and joint disease at Johns-Hopkins College of Medicine, and subsequently became the first (and still only) DC to achieve the rank of “Fellow” in the American College of Sports Medicine.

In 1987, Dr. Press, as Chairman of International Affairs for the ACA Sports Council, founded the International Federation of Sports Chiropractic, known as “FICS” and was elected its first President. He also founded the International Academy of Olympic Chiropractic Officers  (IAOCO), for which he still  serves as Chairman. In 1991, he was appointed by the Minister of Sport of the USSR to be their Chief Physician at the XVIth Winter Olympic Games in Albertville, France.

Subsequently, he served a two year term as Chairman of the Medical Commission for the IOC recognized World Governing Body for Roller Sports, known as FIRS, and was co-opted by H.E., Kirsan Ilyumzhinov (President of the Republic of Kalmykia) to  create a medical commission for the World Chess Federation  (FIDE). No other DC has ever served as a member of the medical commission of any IOC Sport’s medical commission.

More recently, Dr. Press, together with his son Robert Press, BS, MS (Comp Sci), founded Wikichiro.org, the comprehensive Chiropractic answer to Wikpedia, and he was named Executive Technical Director, by the Chairman of the Board of Directors, for OurMed.org, created by Columbia Medical School Professor, Stan Kachnowski.   Dr. Press was invited by Prof. C. Michael Gibson, Chairman  of WikiDoc.org, to be editor-in-Chief of the Chiropractic section of their online medical textbook.
